Sweet & Simple Row-by-Row Sew Along – Apple Block

Today marks Week 4 of the Sweet & Simple Row-by-Row Sew Along, and we are going to make the adorable Apple Block! This beautiful pattern, created by Gracie of BURLAP & BLOSSOM PATTERNS, really highlights the sweetness and lovely colors in Tasha Noel’s Simple Goodness fabric collection.

This fun block features two shiny red apples in an itty bitty floral print. So cute!

Let’s get started! Before you begin, as always, make sure to clearly label your cut pieces. I promise this will save you headaches and aggravation later on!

To begin, join a G piece to the left and right sides of an H piece to form an H unit. Press.

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of J pieces. With the right sides facing, layer a J piece on the bottom left corner of the H unit. Stitch on the drawn line.

Trim 1/4″ away from the seam and press.

Repeat on the bottom right corner of the H unit. Press.

Join an F piece to the top of an I piece. Press. Make 2.

Join an F/I unit to the left and right sides of the H unit to form the stem unit. Press.

With the right sides facing, layer a J piece on the top left corner of a P piece. Stitch on the drawn line and trim 1/4″ away from the seam and press.

Join an M piece to the bottom of the P piece to form the P unit. Press.

With right sides facing, layer a J piece on the top right corner of a Q piece. Stitch on the drawn line and trim 1/4″ away from the seam and press.

Stitch on the drawn line and trim 1/4″ away from the seam and press. In the same manner, mark the E pieces. With the right sides facing, layer an E piece on the bottom left corner of the L piece. Stitch on the drawn line and trim 1/4″ away from the seam and press.

Join the L piece to the bottom of the shine unit to form the right apple half.

With the right sides facing, layer a B piece on the bottom left corner of the K piece. Stitch on the drawn line and trim 1/4″ away from the seam and press. With the right sides facing, layer an E piece on the bottom right corner of the L piece. Stitch on the drawn line and trim 1/4″ away from the seam and press.

Join the K piece to the left side of the right apple half to form the apple unit.

Join the stem unit to the top of the apple unit. Press.

With the right sides facing, layer a B piece on the top left corner of the apple unit. Stitch on the drawn line and trim 1/4″ away from the seam and press. Repeat on the top right corner of the apple unit.

Repeat steps 1-7 to make a second apple.
