Wild & Playful Market Tote

If you are looking for last minute handmade gift ideas, look no further! I have two super easy and equally awesome project to share with you!  Both project use panels from our brand new Wild & Playful fabric collection. Wild & Playful arrives in stores this month and features gorgeous wildlife fabric panels — both full sized panels and pillow sized panels.

First up is this totally fab Wolves Market Tote. To make this bag, I used the Wolves Pillow Panel. The pillow panel comes with four 17″ x 21.5″ panels featuring Wolves, Mountain Lion, Bear and Buffalo.

I decided the Wolves panel needed to become a market tote, and Sachiko, from Tea Rose Home had the perfect TUTORIAL.

How fun is this bag?! I quilted the front with some easy free-form stitches on my machine, following the shape of the trees and the direction of the wolves’ fur.

I used Riley Blake Linen as the second fabric for this bag. I love the light and airy color and the texture of the linen against the detailed graphics of the wolf panel. I used leather, or faux leather handles, which are super easy to sew on to the bag — the added contrast in texture and color is just perfect!

The inside of the bag and the pocket are also made with LINEN. The pocket is contrasted with a little bit of Riley Black for a nice, modern touch.

Here you can see the contrast between the panel, the linen fabric, and the leather handles. I didn’t add the outer pocket in Sachiko’s tutorial because I didn’t want to cover any of the panel on the front, and I really wanted to highlight the simplicity of the linen on the back. I also left out the cross body strap and changed the fabric straps for the leather ones.

The tote bag comes together quickly. My first bag took longer because I was double checking instructions and making a few changes. It was so fun to make, I decided to whip up a 2nd one using the Buffalo panel, and it took about 30 minutes!

LOVE!

The Buffalo bag came together much the same as the Wolves bag, except I added black binding to the top edge for a different look. I also used black leather handles instead of brown. Which one do you like better?
