Spin and Twirl – Ballet Quilt Blocks

Hey there, my name is Ingrid and I am the creative head behind Joe June and Mae. I love foundation paper piecing

and have created a large selection of paper piecing patterns. You can find them on www.joejuneandmae.com

I am very happy to say, that I will be contributing blog posts to the Riley Blake Blog.

I am a huge fan of their fabric lines and feel very lucky to be part of the team.

Speaking of which, have you heard of ‘Spin and Twirl’ the new ballet inspired fabric series?

Didn’t you want to be a ballerina when you were little?

Maybe you even took some dance classes without much success, like me?

And now you have little kids and the story repeats itself? What is it about ballerinas?

I don’t know, but I do know, that this new fabric series ‘Spin and Twirl’ is absolutely adorable and perfect for all sorts

of ballerina inspired sewing projects for our little ones.

I have designed a small quilt block pattern series for this new fabric series by Riley Blake Designs.

This fabric series is sweet with a feminine touch, but not too girly, that it’s overbearingly pink and purple.

On the contrary, it’s a very classic and stylish. The colors are beautiful soft pinks, mint and creme with a touch of

navy that adds the perfect touch this ballerina fabric series.

I designed two different ballerinas, ballet shoes and a crown. A ballerina needs a crown, right?

These patterns are perfect for our little one’s room.

They can be framed or be made into pillowcases, a mini quilt as a wall hanging, or can be showcased in a full quilt.

I decided to make a ballerina bag for my youngest ballerina.

It’s a glamorous lined gym bag version.

I used one of the ballerina quilt blocks as the front of the bag. And made the back with little squares.

The prints in this new fabric series are perfect for fussy cutting. Therefore I made the back of my bag with 49

2,5″ squares and went a little fussy cutting crazy.

But you might as well take one of the gorgeous prints in this fabric series as your ballerina bag backing.

You will find a full step by step free tutorial and pattern for the ballerina bag on my website

I hope your little ballerinas will be happy to receive their ballet bags soon as well.

Happy sewing
